Appointments and First Contact
How do I book an appointment?
The easiest way to book an appointment is by phone at 030 / 7912366 during our consultation hours. You can also reach us by email at praxis@doc-prokop.de or via our contact form – we will get back to you within 24 hours. Check-up and prophylaxis appointments can also be conveniently booked by you directly via the doctena portal.
How quickly can I get an appointment?
Routine and check-up appointments are usually scheduled within 2 to 4 weeks. For our existing patients with acute discomfort, we can typically arrange a same-day or next-day appointment. If you are in pain or have an urgent concern, please call us – we will find a solution together.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
For your first appointment, please bring your health insurance card. Also helpful, if available: recent X-rays, previous medical records and, if applicable, cost estimates from your former dentist, your German bonus booklet (Bonusheft), as well as a list of medications you take regularly. We are happy to request X-rays – ideally no older than 6 months – directly from your previous dentist once you provide their contact details.
Costs and Insurance
Which health insurance providers do you accept?
We treat both publicly insured patients (under Germany’s statutory health insurance, gesetzliche Krankenversicherung) and privately insured patients from all providers, as well as recipients of the German civil service health subsidy (Beihilfe) and self-paying patients. Publicly insured patients must present their insurance card or a substitute form. Privately insured patients and Beihilfe recipients should be able to identify themselves at the first contact. Self-paying patients settle their bill directly at the practice after treatment. For extensive or planned treatments, we ask for an appropriate deposit.
Do I receive a cost estimate before extensive treatments?
Yes. For treatments under standard care as well as those beyond it, we prepare a treatment and cost plan (Heil- und Kostenplan, HKP) in advance. Privately insured patients and Beihilfe recipients receive a detailed cost estimate upon request. You will see transparently which services are involved, what your public, private insurance or Beihilfe covers, and what portion remains your own contribution. Treatment only begins after your consent – there are no surprises at our practice.
Special Patient Situations
Do you treat patients with dental anxiety?
Yes, gladly. We take particular time for anxious patients – for conversation, explanations, and a calm atmosphere that builds trust. If you wish, we support you with gentle methods such as acupuncture or relaxation techniques. Please feel free to speak with us in advance so that we can adapt the procedure individually to your needs.
Are treatments performed with anaesthesia?
Whenever it is sensible and necessary – to improve acceptance and ease the treatment situation – we offer local anaesthesia. If you wish, we complement this with a prior surface anaesthesia at the injection site.
Service
Do you treat children? From what age?
Yes, children are very welcome at our practice. Ideally, the first visit takes place between 6 and 12 months of age, around the time of the first tooth eruption.
Will I be reminded of check-up appointments? What about the bonus booklet?
If you wish, we will remind you of your next check-up appointment – optionally combined with a professional dental cleaning. At the end of the year, we check with our regular patients whether they have already had a check-up during the current year and remind them in time, as far as possible. Especially for those covered by Germany’s statutory health insurance, it is worth keeping the bonus booklet (Bonusheft) up to date: even a single missing entry can reduce the subsidy for dental prostheses to the minimum amount.
Can I be advised in English or Spanish at the practice?
Yes. English-speaking patients are looked after directly by Dr. Prokop. For Spanish-speaking patients, his wife, a native Spanish speaker who works at the practice, will be happy to assist.
Are home visits or appointments in care homes possible?
In the Berlin district of Steglitz, Dr. Prokop offers – within his available time – visits to your home or care home. This service is primarily aimed at regular patients he has accompanied for years. The focus is on the repair, extension, and new fabrication of removable dental prostheses; surgical-conservative treatments are not possible within the scope of a home visit.
